Community Play Reading Event--GREENSBORO: A REQUIEM by Emily Mann
@ McCarter Theatre Center
Monday, March 12, 2018 6pm

McCarter Theatre Center any and all to join us in a participatory community reading of GREENSBORO: A REQUIEM written in 1996 by McCarter Artistic Director and Resident Playwright Emily Mann. This documentary play was inspired by the killings of five anti-Ku Klux Klan demonstrators in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1979. The play—crafted entirely from verbatim interview material, courtroom transcripts, and personal reminiscences of the people involved—examines historical, yet timely, issues of social justice, white supremacism, hate speech, and racially motivated violence.

The reading will be followed by a group discussion of the experience of the play in relation to current events.

Community play readings are interactive, round-robin format readings in which everyone gets a chance to read aloud. No experience or preparation is necessary at all. Please reserve your seat in advance by emailing McCarter community play reading events are free and open to the public. Copies of the play will be provided at the event.

The play contains strong racially charged language and themes. Interested high school students are encouraged to attend accompanied by an adult.
