"1000 Faces" The Lon Chaney Musical
@ Skyline Theatre Company
Friday, March 2, 2018 7pm

This is a staged reading of a brand new musical, 1000 Faces, based on the life of film legend Lon Chaney. The son of deaf parents, Lon Chaney marries 15-year old Cleva Creighton. They travel with their young son, working in vaudeville houses across the country where Cleva becomes a rising singing star. Their jealousies escalate, and in the heat of an argument Cleva attempts suicide. She survives, but her voice is permanently damaged. The incident causes such a scandal that Lon can no longer work in theater, and he turns to silent films in Hollywood. His pioneering use of make-up, incredible physicality, and compassion for “ grotesque” and flawed characters, lead him to create some of the most iconic film performances ever— including the original Hunchback of Notre Dame and Phantom of the Opera. One of the last holdouts in silent film, Lon makes his first talkie, which is a huge success. A film legend, Lon Chaney dies just six weeks later, but his legacy continues to grow today. Featuring talent from Broadway the presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the authors and Chaney's great-grandson Ron Chaney!
